Aoba lives on Midori Island, located southwest of the Japanese archipelago. He works part-time at a secondhand shop called “Ordinary” while living with his grandmother.
Two opposing forms of entertainment are currently popular on the island: “Ribsteez,” a territorial battle fought through hand-to-hand combat, and “Rhyme,” a cyber online game set in a virtual world. Aoba has never taken part in either, choosing instead to live a quiet, peaceful life.
However, one day, he is suddenly and forcibly drawn into a Rhyme battle.
