Hasbro Entertainment is rolling the dice with two film projects inspired by its classic board game Monopoly. The highly anticipated productions will bring The Monopoly Man to screens of all sizes, from a feature-length film to an unscripted television series.

Deadline reports that the upcoming series will turn Hasbro’s beloved board game into a large-scale reality competition. Contestants will battle it out to build their bank, using strategy, alliances, and cutthroat gameplay to amass wealth by any means necessary. Players must toe the delicate line between capitalism and class warfare; one wrong move, and they’ll risk losing it all.
In true Monopoly fashion, broadcasters and streaming platforms are locked in a bidding war for the property.
Hasbro Entertainment will also translate Monopoly into a full-length feature film, with the help of Lionsgate and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap. Though the production is still in early development, Deadline confirmed John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein will write the screenplay. Having recently written and directed another board game-inspired film, Paramount’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the duo plans to give the timeless franchise a fresh, comedic spin.
Erin Westerman, Co-President of Lionsgate, feels Daley and Goldstein are an excellent choice for shaping the future of Monopoly. She said, “We’ve been longtime admirers of their work — telling bold, original, intelligent stories for all audiences. They are the perfect architects for this franchise.”
