Sony Pictures and POP MART have announced that filmmaker Paul King, best known for “Wonka” and “Paddington,” is developing a feature film based on Labubu.
Multiple sources confirmed the announcement was made during a Paris event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Monsters universe, which includes Labubu. At the event, King and Kasing Lung, creator, Labubu, disclosed that King will write the screenplay alongside Tony Award-winning writer Steven Levenson.
While specific plot details have yet to be revealed, it is confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that the project will be set in the Labubu universe through both CGI and live action. Lung was named executive producer. Details of the upcoming film, including a release date, have yet to be shared.
